WASHINGTON (CBS News) --The Food and Drug Administration has approved the first drug for treatment of male pattern baldness.
The drug is the first drug approved by the FDA to treat the condition since the introduction of the drug in 1997.
In the first year of using the drug, the FDA had approved 5 million prescriptions for 5 million people who had male pattern baldness. The new drug, called Avanafil, is currently being sold by Pfizer.
But Merck, which makes Avanafil, has not received the approval for the new drug.
